It all began in
1958 in Flushing, New York, where our founder, Angelo J. Sbrocchi, out of his
interest in hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors, began buying and selling
antique, military, and modern firearms. About two years
later, Sportsmen’s Specialty Shop was
born, occupying a small store located in a commercial area on Deer Park Avenue
in Deer Park, New York. This new and expanded venture included the stocking and
selling of guns and hunting equipment, as well as archery equipment, fishing
tackle, and skin diving equipment. In May 1971 our
founder opened a new store trade named World of Guns
in an industrial area on Gazza Boulevard in Farmingdale. This small store was
only about 185 square feet in size. As our growth progressed, we found it
necessary to relocate three more times within the Farmingdale area, with each
building larger than its predecessor.
During October 1972 we relocated to
Conklin Street, this time into a building about 1,000 square feet in
size. Soon we needed more space, so we utilized two truck trailer boxes placed
alongside the building for additional storage space. After only three and a half
years, in May 1976 we relocated back to Gazza Boulevard, entering a building
more than four times larger. In 1982 we adopted our current name of
American Outdoor Sports, reflecting the
enhanced diversification of our product line. Our final move was made in June 1986 to our current headquarters on Route 110, a busy New York state highway in Farmingdale. Here we occupy a 16,000 square foot building, conveniently located midway between the Long Island Expressway and the Southern State Parkway, near the Long Island Railroad and Republic Airport. Our goal is to offer sportsmen and sportswomen the highest quality of field and stream sports equipment and clothing at the lowest prices available. We maintain a relaxed, friendly, and interesting store to visit and shop. Our informed sales team strives to accommodate our customers’ needs by providing them with helpful, courteous service in a professional manner. We would like to extend our sincere
